Fusion Competition Dance Team
Information for the 2012 - 2013 Dance Season
(Click here to for a printable PDF version of the following info.)
Each dance season, the Dartmouth Dance Academy offers its dancers who are also enrolled in DDA dance classes, the opportunity to participate and perform on a “Competitive Dance Team.” Selections for the team will be based not only on your technique as a dancer, but on attitude, commitment to dance, and how you work with others. Please be advised that this is a big commitment for Dancers and their parents. Fusion team members must be registered in DDA classes and taking a ballet or lyrical class. Please Note: Fusion dancers will have better results when doing a ballet class at least once a week.
Commitment and Expectations: Unlike some other dance teams, Fusion does not expect its members to limit their activities to dance alone. But Fusion does expect that dance be your PRIMARY commitment. The effort that is put into Fusion by each team member will determine our results.
All-Inclusive Fee: Fusion has an all-inclusive yearly fee along with payment options. The total cost per dancer for all regular team costs for the 2012/2013 season is $1300. Each team will do a Jazz dance, a lyrical or Contemporary dance and Modern Production. The new fee represents this new program that includes 4 competitions, longer classes and more team dances and more costumes. Please note: No refunds for any reason, including illness, injury or dropouts. Also please note: If not paying full amount, post-dated cheques are required.
Registration: Please return the attached form to Lisa or Nancy to register. No registrations will be accepted after June 1, 2012. A $200 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT will be REQUIRED at the time of registration for the Fusion teams—PLEASE return Registration Form with deposit . Please note: Payments with post-dated cheques must be submitted on Sept 5. Nancy will be on hand. And the $200 will be taken off the overall fee in Sept. This deposit will ensure your spot for the fall.
Team Rehearsals: Weekly team rehearsals are held at the Cole Harbour Place, and begin in September and continue until May. Past dancers please note that teams and schedules will change from year to year. depending on where faculty would like to place dancers and what dances faculty will be doing with the team. Your team time for this season is listed on your registration form.
Please Note: We are re-vamping all teams this year. We will be taking into consideration the following:
1. How much each dancer dances- how many days and classes per week.
2. Level at which they are dancing.
3. Age.
4. Dedication and Work Ethic.
** we also have a big group of dancers who fit into the senior grouping so they will be doing a big group dance together (hence the overlap in time).
Our team has now grown and we have many dancers who dance 4-7 days a week and are wanting to head for a career in dance, so it has become necessary to adjust our teams for all involved to accommodate the twice a week dancer as well as the 6-day a week dancer.
We want to stress that no team is up or down, just different, and by placing your dancer in the correct team we feel that they will be able to get the most out of our program. Teams will be named in the September.

Parent/Dancer Expectations
For a printable version of the "Parent/Dancer Expecteation Form", click here.
Please Note: We also will be following the Guidelines for Fair Play. Please read the attached carefully! Dancers will not be permitted in rehearsals until this form is signed and returned.
- Dancers are expected to work hard.
- Parents/Dancers must show respect to all other dancers/instructors & parents.
- Parents/Dancers must maintain a positive attitude.
- Dancers must attend all rehearsals & practices for competitions–“Only Exceptions -illness and school-graded activities”. __________ (Parent’s Initial)
- Dancers or parents are asked not to approach Fusion faculty for permission to miss practice for reasons such as: school dances, birthday parties, school plays, and other extracurricular activities or part-time jobs. This puts the faculty in a very difficult position given the No Exceptions policy.
- Be dressed in proper Dance attire at every team rehearsal.
- Due to limited time and space, those dancing on the Fusion teams, must remember that, to dance on the team is a privilege and not a right, and if you are not committed and willing to work hard, you may lose the privilege for the next dance season.
- All information sheets, registrations etc. in which there is a requested deadline to return to the Fusion Competition Dance Team, must be returned on time, or it will be assumed that you will not be participating in that particular event or that you do not require or want tickets (or whatever the case may be).
- Any dancer or parent not following the above rules will be asked to withdraw from the team.
